Who We Are

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal: to create a fitting, memorable and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.

Together, we'll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now, and in the future. Families who come to us know that years from now, they will have deep peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they've done their best to honor their loved one.

  • Our History

The Funeraria Luz de Paz opened its doors to the Bridgeport community on July 1, 1997.

The dream began originally at 1390 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport. That day, when the funeral home sign was undraped, we dedicated the firm first and foremost to God for the benefit of the community.

We believe that our success is credited exclusively to the grace and blessings from the Lord. "I have to say," declares Edgar, "there was a bit of skepticism of whether or not it would succeed, but those that doubted us didn't take into consideration what was done when our sign was uncovered."

After 2 years in business, our financial advisors and business advisor and friend, Kevin Lesko, of Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, in Fairfield, suggested we move the business to a dedicated facility. Soon thereafter, the current address of 426 E. Washington Avenue, in Bridgeport became available. The building formerly housed the Louis A. Abriola & Son Funeral Home, and was in great need of repair and renovations, but that didn’t stop us.

    It was a Miracle

Without any hesitation and only $3,000.00 in our bank account, the funeral home made the first payment of $2,900.00 for the new facilities, leaving only $100.00 to conduct business and initiate repairs.

The family of the owner and founder, Edgar Rodriguez, age 28 at the time, jumped in to help. His mother, Mirta Bayon, and her husband, Carlos Bayon, as well as his father, Orlando Rodriguez and his wife Raquel, as well as almost countless aunts and uncles all worked together to renew and restore the facilities.

Together, Nelson Bayon, Georgina Bayon, the Late Hector Medina, Blanca Medina, Carmen Sanjurjo, the Late Fabian Sanjurjo, Sol Ortiz; cousins Willie Hector and Ricardo Medina, Nelson Bayon Jr., Miguel Bayon, Christian Bayon, and many others all painted and cleaned the facilities, inside and out without any hesitation or financial compensation.

There was a certain divine magic in the creation of this new facility. Everything came together, and when the first call came into the home, the Funeraria Luz de Paz was ready to conduct the services.

Since then, the funeral home has reinvested a great amount of funds to renovate the facilities inside and out, and to create a larger parking lot. They are proud to offer more services each day. It has become one of the premier funeral homes in the city of Bridgeport, and for a long time was the only Hispanic owned and operated funeral home in the state of Connecticut.

Everything the funeral home has accomplished since its inception has been because of God's loving grace and blessings. That is something we always will acknowledge and heartily give all the praise and acknowledgement due to Him for his faithfulness to us.

Our vision is to provide exceptional services at a fair cost to everyone that we serve. We don’t pretend to be perfect, but yet we expect to provide the best that is available to all that come to us for services.

On July 7, 2007, we had our 10 year Anniversary Memorial Ceremony and Celebration. We had a big blowout for the entire community. Estimated over 350 persons came by. Our parking lot was filled with entertainment for adults and children, music, clowns, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and other treats for the eye and the taste buds. “Our goal was to create a day when people could come to our facilities to celebrate being alive, when they came to us without the usual sorrows that bring them to our door.”

They began the festivities with an acknowledgement and notation of all the names of the deceased we have served throughout our ten years – at that time the list included over 1,000 names.

We were doubly honored that day, when the former Mayor of the city, John M. Fabrizi stopped by to give them a Proclamation stating that "the seventh of July of the year 2007 is officially the Funeraria Luz de Paz, Edgar Rodriguez Day in the Great City of Bridgeport.”

"We hope everyone there had a great time, and look forward to many more years of making the Funeraria Luz de Paz a funeral home of excellence and superb professionalism."
