Ana M. Tavares
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Ana M. Tavares, who left this world on August 23, 2024, at the age of 98. Born on November 24, 1925, in San José de las Matas, Santiago, Dominican Republic, Ana lived a life marked by deep faith, boundless love, and a commitment to family and community. Ana is the daughter of the late Otilio Nuñez and the late Ana S. Brisita.
Ana was a devoted mother to her children: Ramon Olivo; Ramona (Jose) Santelises; Jose D. Tavares; Ana Tavares; Jose B. Tavares; Tomas Tavares; Fernando (Elena) Tavares; Paula (Fernando) Tavares; and the late Yudelka Tavares and the late Jose R. Tavares. She was also cherished as a grandmother to 28 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 29 great-grandchildren. Her loving nature extended to her siblings Maria Nuñez, Elena Nuñez, and Otilia Nuñez, and she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity.
Ana was a woman of remarkable resilience and spirit. Her assertiveness and strong personality were balanced by her deep compassion and loving heart. She held family unity and the education of her children close to her heart, never accepting anything less than the best for them. Her daily devotion included praying the Rosary, especially the Rosary of Mercy (La Misericordia), reflecting her deep faith and commitment.
She embraced life with passion—whether through her love of travel, her dedication to reading, or her remarkable skills as a self-taught cook and seamstress. Ana's culinary creations were a testament to her natural talent, and her sewing skills, though learned independently, were a source of pride. Her commitment to agriculture and raising animals was a reflection of her love for the land and the joy she found in nurturing life.
Ana’s generous spirit extended beyond her immediate family. She welcomed neighbors as family and was always ready to lend a helping hand, embodying the spirit of kindness and community. Her loyalty to her mother was unwavering; she cared for her with tenderness and devotion until her mother’s passing.
A beloved resident of the United States for over 40 years, Ana's heart remained firmly rooted in her hometown of San José de las Matas. Just a year ago, she revisited her homeland, a testament to her enduring connection to her origins.
Ana’s dog Luna, was a constant source of joy in her life, and she found great pleasure in the simple joys of home but she always looked forward to a trip to the beach.
