It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the late Angel Rios Ortiz. He was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on November 5, 1926 to the late Catalino Ortiz Bonilla and Maria Rios Font. He lived in Puerto Rico for 17 years before being inducted into the United States Army on June 2, 1944. After serving our country he received an "Honorable Discharge on April 9, 1951.
Angel met the love of his life, Carmen Esther Ortiz, and was married on February 18, 1948, for 56 years. He was an employee at Nancy Lynn Bakery, then Sikorsky Aircraft from which he retired. They relocated to Fort Myers, Florida in December 1992 and their final home was in Lehigh, Florida.
Angel was a firm believer of Jesus Christ and served in different capacities in various churches, including praying during home and hospital visits. He served in Men's and Deacon's Ministries, being part of the Board of Directors and sharing the gospel to whomever was within his reach. In his final years, his hobbies included listening to Gospel and Mexican music, enjoyed watching Mexican and Military movies, reading his Bible, playing dominoes, cards and spending quality times with his family.
God blessed his marriage with 10 children. Angel David, Edwin, Israel (Debbie), Elizabeth (Isaias), Cenaida, Luis Angel, Carlos (Carmen), Kenneth (Norma), Sonia (Samuel) and Edward (Ivet). Angel was also blessed leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his 28 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Other family members include a sister Rosa Maria Ortiz and a brother Raphael Ortiz.
Angel was predeceased by his parents, his wife Carmen Esther, his sons Edwin, Luis Angel and Angel David, his grandson Eric, his sisters Josefina, Gloria and Engracia and his brothers Mosin, Felix and Francisco.
Angel was best known for his love for others and enjoyed hugging everyone he met. He was passionate about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and devoted his life in doing so. His generosity and willing spirit was a joy to all who knew him and benefited from his life. He will always be remembered most for his words of wisdom, scripture readings, kindness and hospitality towards others.
A celebration of Angel's beautiful life will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM at Church of Christ, 240 Hamilton Street, Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow immediately after at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. All are invited to attend a repast at the church after the burial service.
