Aquilino “Quiro” Alvarez Nieves passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, cradled in the love of his family and the memories of a life lived with unyielding devotion, dignity, and kindness. Born on January 20, 1932, in Juncos, Puerto Rico, Aquilino’s journey began in the heart of the island he cherished. From his earliest years through his long and fruitful life, he exuded a quiet strength and compassion that became the cornerstone of his family and community.
Quiro is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Valeria Rosa Guadalupe, who was his greatest partner and companion throughout many seasons of life. Their love was a beacon—steadfast and sustaining, a model of enduring devotion for everyone who had the privilege of witnessing it. His legacy continues in his children Nancy Alvarez Torres (Roberto), Maria Elizabeth Roman (Noel), Raquel Ramos (Ramon), Juan Ramon Alvarez, and Annie Cruz, whose lives have been deeply shaped by his wisdom and gentle guidance.
To his grandchildren, Joey, Pablo, Natalie, Michelle, Joshua, Jonathan, Jeanette, Amanda, Juan Carlos, and Gretchen. Great grandchildren, Nina-Marie, Bailey, AJ, Giuliana, Liliana, and Ophelia. Aquilino was not only a grandfather but a mentor, storyteller, and supporter, enriching their lives with generosity and unwavering encouragement. Each of them carries forward a part of his spirit in the choices they make and the compassion they show to others. The bond he shared with each of them shaped a tapestry of memories and connections that will long endure. He also leaves behind his sister Ana Echeverria, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and compadres, whom he truly loved, including very close friends.
His journey was marked by love, but also by loss. Aquilino was preceded in death by his father, Aquilino Alvarez Ramos, and his mother, Juana Nieves Roldan. He grieved and cherished the memory of his brothers Carlos, Laudelino, Wilfredo, Miguel Angel, Carmelo, Angel Miguel, Jose Antonio his sisters Carlina, Rosa and Sonia, now reunited with him in eternal peace.
Those who knew Aquilino will remember him as a man of faith and integrity. He was a devout Catholic who actively worshipped at St. Mary's Church, a lector, Eucharistic Minister, a Cursillista and Santo Nombre. His patience and humility touched all who crossed his path. He was a loyal fan of the New York Knicks and Mets, where his patience was best displayed. CT State Champ "El Campeon" of dominoes. His laughter at the family table and the delicious meals he lovingly prepared will be missed by all. He enjoyed traveling to Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Dominican Republic where his ability to find joy in small acts of kindness, all resonate deeply in the hearts of those who survive him. He was a man who saw beauty in unity, who celebrated the triumphs of his loved ones. He was a jack of all trades who was actively involved in the rearing of his children and grandchildren where his skills ranged from haircuts to removal of teeth. He was a skilled and dedicated employee of over 30 plus years at Peerless Aluminum. He proudly served this country in the US Army & Marines, during the Korean War. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Friends and family are invited to honor Aquilino’s memory and the indelible mark he left on their lives. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. A Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 25 Sherman St, Bridgeport, CT, reflecting Aquilino’s deep spiritual roots. His final resting place will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave, Stratford, CT, with burial commencing at 2:00 p.m.
Though his physical presence has left us, the love, grace, and kindness that defined Aquilino “Quiro” Alvarez Nieves live on eternally in all who knew him. In our stories, our hearts, and our most cherished memories, he remains—an enduring source of love and inspiration.
