Assunta Lisi

Assunta Lisi returned peacefully to the loving arms of the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love and care of her family.

A longtime resident of Bridgeport, Assunta came to America from Strangolagalli, Italy, in 1962 with her family. She lived in Monroe, Connecticut, until her marriage and later made Bridgeport her home, becoming a beloved and familiar presence in the community.

Assunta was predeceased by her beloved parents, Guido Lisi and Paulina Lisi, and by her cherished son, Leonardo Finelli.

She leaves behind her loving daughter, Paola Finelli; and her two cherished grandchildren, Leonardo Finelli Jr. and Jorge Cevallos Jr. She is also survived by her siblings: Anna Lisi and her husband, Bruno Cocco, of Italy; Marcella Riccardi and her husband, Daniel Riccardi, of Southbury, Connecticut; and her brother, John Lisi, of Monroe, Connecticut. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Serena, Mara, Chiara, and Daniela; her nephew, Sergio; and her beloved dog, Brianna, who was a special part of her life.

Assunta learned the art of sewing from her father and began her career working at the family business, Continental Cleaners. In 1979, she followed her passion and opened her own tailor shop on North Avenue, fondly known by many as Susie's Tailor Shop. For more than 45 years, Assunta dedicated herself to her craft and to the many customers who became friends and family along the way.

Although she often said she was finally going to retire, Assunta always seemed to stay just a little bit longer. She truly loved what she did and was exceptionally talented at her craft. She was always willing to help, especially when someone came to her with a last-minute alteration for a special occasion. She rarely said no and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand.

Beyond her talent with a needle and thread, Assunta was also known for her love of cooking. Her sauce, meatballs, lasagna, and, of course, her famous chicken cutlets were enjoyed by many. She had a generous heart and would often invite her customers to stay and eat, turning a simple visit to her tailor shop into a warm and memorable experience.

Assunta was also known for being feisty, outspoken, and never one to hold back what was on her mind. She had no filter—and those who knew her loved her all the more for it. When someone would comment about her spirited personality, the response was often, “Oh, that's just Susie. Just ignore her.” Her honesty, humor, and unforgettable personality made her truly one of a kind.

Assunta will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former customers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the love she shared, the lives she touched, the food she lovingly prepared, and the countless people she helped throughout her many years of service to the community.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Margaret Shrine in 2539 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.  The family will greet callers after the mass.
