Benedicto Serrano
December 11, 1941 – June 12, 2026
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Benedicto "Benny" Serrano announces his passing on June 12, 2026 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, faithful friend, and man of unwavering dedication, Benny leaves behind a legacy built upon love, sacrifice, faith, and family.
Born on December 11, 1941, in Don Alonso Utuado, Puerto Rico, Benny later made his home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he spent many years building a life centered around those he loved most. He was the beloved son of the late Francisco Serrano Sr. and the late Serafina Serrano Ríos.
Benny was united in marriage to the love of his life of 49 years, Andrea Serrano, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, devotion, and family. Together they built a home filled with warmth, faith, and the values that would guide generations to come.
A hardworking man by nature, Benny worked in maintenance, never shying away from the responsibilities necessary to care for his family. Those who knew him understood that providing for his loved ones was not simply a duty—it was his greatest joy. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to ensure that his family never went without, placing their needs above his own and demonstrating every day what true selflessness looked like.
Family was the center of Benny's world. He was the proud father of Diane Serrano, Yolanda Serrano, and Melanie Serrano, and stepfather to James Escalante each of whom brought immeasurable pride and happiness to his life. He was also a cherished grandfather to Amy, Alexis, Jonathan, Maria, Claudilyz and Alvin Jr. "AJ" whose presence brought him endless joy and countless reasons to smile.
Benny found happiness in life's simple blessings. He loved spending time fishing, playing with the family cats, tending to his garden, feeding the birds, praying at St. Mary's chapel and caring for his home. He took great pride in keeping his house beautiful and welcoming for his family and friends. Whether working outdoors, sharing stories with loved ones, or simply enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren, he treasured every moment spent with those closest to him.
A man of deep faith, Benny was a devout Catholic. His faith guided him throughout his life and served as the foundation upon which he built his character, his family, and his relationships. He lived with humility, kindness, and a sincere desire to help others.
He is predeceased by his loving parents Francisco Serrano Sr. and Serafina Serrano Ríos and his siblings Francisco Serrano Jr., Minerva Candelaria, Lillian Candelaria, Adelina Serrano, Gloria Serrano, Antonio Serrano, Carlos Serrano and Olga Serrano. He is survived by his sister Carmen Kohler as well as many nieces and nephews.
Though his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in knowing that his love, wisdom, work ethic, and unwavering devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His example reminds us that the measure of a life is not found in possessions or accomplishments, but in the love we give and the lives we touch.
Benny will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
