Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carmen Gonzalez Perez on August 15, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on January 8, 1950, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Carmen embodied warmth, love, and kindness. She lived a full life in Stamford and Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she raised her family and shared her love of life with everyone around her.

Carmen was a devoted mother to her three children and spouses: Carmen A. Nieves (Victor), Juan L. Quiñones (Caren), and the late Ramiro Quiñones (D) (Jeannine). Her love, support, and compassion leave a legacy that will live on through her family and all who knew her. She also leaves behind the apples of her eye, her four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and her godchildren and those non-related children she adopted in love.

Her devoted siblings, who are also heartbroken by her passing, include Joaquin Gonzalez-Perez, Blanca Gonzalez-Perez, Anabel Gonzalez-Perez, Jose Gonzalez Perez, and Milagros Gonzalez Perez (D). She was preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin Gonzalez Nieves and Ana Perez Arce.

Though she faced challenges along the way, Carmen approached life with resilience and an unwavering belief in the importance of serving her family and community. A woman of strength and grace, she humbly volunteered at the New Covenant Center Soup Kitchen food pantry, making sure people knew about the services and helping to ensure that her neighbors had something to eat. Her dedication to helping others earned her recognition as Volunteer of the Month.

Carmen's generosity extended far beyond volunteering. She served as a translator, helped others complete important documents, provided transportation to medical appointments, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She also enjoyed making pizzas and preparing traditional Puerto Rican food to sell and share with others.

Wherever she went, Carmen connected with people with ease and sincerity, leaving her footprints firmly embedded in the lives she touched. Her family was her priority, and she treasured the moments they shared. Her creativity and independence were evident in everything she did. Her warmth embraced those around her.

In celebration of Carmen's life, her family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring her memory. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Carmen's memory to New Covenant Center's Food Pantry, where she proudly served for many years.
