With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carmen Irene Jaiman, who peacefully entered eternal rest on January 30, 2026, at the age of 84.
Carmen was born on November 28, 1941, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, where she was raised and developed a strong love for family and community that stayed with her throughout her life. Puerto Rico always remained close to her heart, and she cherished every opportunity to return home and spend time on the island she loved. During her grammar school years, she moved to the United States, eventually settling in Connecticut, where she continued her education, pursued her nursing career, and began raising her family.
After settling in Connecticut, Carmen continued her education and, in 1962, proudly graduated from the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nurse degree. She went on to dedicate more than 50 years as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Bridgeport Hospital, where she helped welcome generations of families into the world.
Carmen had many interests such as traveling, working as an Avon lady, real estate agent, and volunteering as a nurse in clinics for those in need.
Carmen worked hard and played even harder. She loved traveling, gardening, shopping, and spending time with her friends and family. She also loved music, and you couldn’t stop her from dancing whenever salsa came on. She will be deeply missed for her stories, her radiant smile, her wisdom, and her favorite saying, which she shared at every feasible opportunity: c’est la vie. She was also incredibly generous, giving freely to various charities and causes that were close to her heart.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Julio Jaiman Torres; her daughter, Jennifer Rearden (Marcus V. Rearden), and her son, David Jaiman; and her cherished grandchildren, Marcus J. Rearden, Michael D. Rearden, Jacqueline A. Rearden-Cofield, and Anjanay Vincent. She also leaves her extended family from Connecticut all the way down to Puerto Rico. She is survived by her sister-in-law/cousin, Julia Jaiman, who was like a sister to her, and she was the Godmother to Annette and Alexis, whom she loved like her own children.
Carmen was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church, actively participating in church events for over 50 years and volunteering her time as a nurse. Through her service and presence, she formed countless friendships that she held close to her heart. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Fr. Skip for his time, support, and prayers during Carmen’s times of need. Carmen will be deeply missed by friends and family near and far.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewing services on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Bridgeport, CT. Together we will then proceed to Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Carmen will be laid to rest.
Carmen’s legacy is one of compassion, quiet strength, and devotion to others. Her life reminds us that caring for those around us is one of the greatest gifts we can give—and one she shared generously every day.
