Carmen Luz Rivera, a beloved educator, cherished mother, and vibrant spirit, departed this life on December 6, 2025, in Bridgeport, CT. Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, on January 14, 1956, she brought joy and warmth to every heart she encountered and cherished her Puerto Rican culture deeply, sharing it generously with all.
Carmen dedicated many years of her life as a nurturing paraprofessional in the Bridgeport public school system, where her passion for education touched countless students and colleagues alike. Her nurturing demeanor extended beyond the classroom, as she also thrived in the daycare field, shaping the minds of young children with care and kindness. Her vibrant personality made her the life of every gathering, where her feisty spirit and unwavering willingness to help created a sense of belonging for everyone around her.
A woman of many talents, Carmen was also an avid fan of the New York Mets. Through ups and downs, her loyalty to the team remained steadfast. She found joy in fishing, enjoyed spirited games of dominoes, and had earned the reputation of being a gifted cook, known affectionately for her delicious "escabeche de mollejas" and "arroz con dulce". Her love for salsa dancing lit up every get-together, accompanied by her deep appreciation for various types of Spanish music, which she often listened to with joy in her heart.
Her talents flourished in her garden, where she cultivated beautiful plants and flowers, particularly stunning sunflowers, a testament to her prolific green thumb. An animal enthusiast, Carmen had a special fondness for cats and birds, often caring for them with affection.
Carmen's family was her greatest treasure. She had 6 children. Omarilis, Maria, Hector, Miguel, Luis, and Jessica, along with ten treasured grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. Her siblings Olga, Ernesto (Ernie), Ernesto (Tito), Jorge, Roberto, David, Leticia, Luz, Yamira, Alejandro, and Arlene stand together in love and memory, united with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will forever carry the warmth of her spirit in their hearts.
Carmen will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, a caring sister, and a friend who touched lives with her kindness. Her parents, Ernesto Torres and Gregoria Perez, along with her sister Omarilis, predeceased her, but her vibrant legacy continues on through the countless lives she impacted.
