Listen to Obituary

Carmen Iris Velazquez, born on June 2, 1937, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, passed away on October 5, 2026, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Carmen lived most of her life in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she became a beloved member of the community. She was known as an assertive, honest, and sincere woman of strong convictions. Her life was marked as a devout Catholic with deep faith and loving service to others. A faithful servant of the Lord, she worshipped devotedly and held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She also found joy in traveling the world, embracing life with curiosity and gratitude.  She was a dedicated and skilled employee of over 30 years at Emson Research.  She spent the final years of her life in North Carolina.

Those who knew Carmen will remember the compassion she extended so freely. She visited the sick and comforted those who mourned, offering presence, prayer, and kindness when they were needed most. She was always with her sisters by her side, and the closeness of that bond was a treasured part of her life.

Carmen is survived by her niece, Maria Lyons, and by her brother, Angel Velazquez as well as her nephews and nieces. She also carries in memory the love of her family members who went before her: her parents, Marcelino Velazquez and Carmen Fernandez Velazquez; her sisters, Benita Fernandez and Marcelina Velazquez; and her brother, Rafael Velazquez. May the love shared among them remain a lasting comfort to all who mourn her passing.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06608.
