It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Rivera, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and beloved community member, who departed from this world on May 11, 2025, at his home in Milford, Connecticut. Born on February 24, 1936, on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, in Maricao. Daniel's journey through life was marked by resilience, determination, and an innate generosity that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Daniel carved out a remarkable career as a successful entrepreneur and mechanic, ultimately owning a chain of Mobile gas stations in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was not just a business owner; he was a beacon for his family, employing many of them and creating a legacy rooted in support and love. Even after retirement, his unwavering work ethic continued as he drove a taxi, always available to lend a helping hand.
Beyond his professional achievements, Daniel's personality radiated warmth and kindness. He was known for his giving spirit, generously sharing his time and resources with those in need. He approached life with a smart-witted sense of humor and maintained a happy demeanor, always smiling, right up to the end. His vitality was evident in his active lifestyle, as he enjoyed walks and cherished the thrill of playing baseball on Sundays, remaining a loyal fan of the New York Mets.
Daniel took immense pride in his family, and it is with love and gratitude that he leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Maria Avila de Rivera. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family that includes their daughters, Maria Grafals, Mildred Rivera, and Elena Castro, along with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His dedication as an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather was evident to all, and despite his limited formal education, Daniel's drive and spirit led him to become a successful businessman, proving that determination knows no bounds.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Rivera and Mercedes Sanchez, who undoubtedly shaped the incredible man he became. His absence will be profoundly felt, but his legacy of love, strength, and resilience will live on through the lives he touched.
