Edwin Lopez

We deeply regret to announce the passing of Edwin Lopez, a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Edwin was born on January 14, 1960, in Bridgeport, CT, where he spent his entire life. He departed from this world on December 10, 2023, in his home, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Edwin will be remembered for his unwavering love for baseball. Throughout his life, he found immense joy playing the sport with his friends and family. Whether it was at Seaside or Wentfield Park, under various teams including the "Polluelos", "Yuya Boys", "Over 50 League" and , "Caribeños",  and more—Edwin's passion for baseball coursed deeply through his blood, and was impressed onto the family for generations. His dedication to the game started with his father Luis (Chichi) Lopez, who is a hall of fame inductee.

Beyond his love for baseball, Edwin possessed a caring and giving nature that endeared him to everyone he met. He took great pride in spending time with his siblings, nieces and nephews and was an unwavering pillar of support throughout their milestones in life. Above all else, he loved both his son EJ and grandson beyond words; spending time with his grandson held a special place in Edwin's heart, as they shared a special bond.

Edwin's warm smile was his trademark. He had a natural ability to make others feel welcomed and loved simply through his presence. Whether it was greeting friends or strangers alike, he radiated positivity and kindness wherever he went. Those who were fortunate enough to know him can attest to the fact that Edwin's smile brightened even the gloomiest of days.

As a handyman by trade, Edwin possessed extraordinary skills that he generously shared with those around him. His willingness to lend a helping hand made him invaluable to both friends and family. Whether fixing something around the house or assisting with various projects, Edwin's knack for problem-solving was second to none.

Edwin Lopez is survived by his loving son, Edwin "EJ" Ruiz. He is also survived by his cherished grandson Joell Ruiz. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters Minerva Watson, sister Sonia Lopez, and sister Margarita Lopez. Edwin is predeceased by his parents, Luis and Obdulia (Yuya) Lopez; and his two brothers Luis Lopez Jr and Freddy Lopez. Together with Edwin's family and friends, we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual who brightened the lives with his joy & kindness.

On December 18, 2023, a visitation will be held in honor of Edwin at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Avenue, in Bridgeport, CT. The visitation will take place from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, providing an opportunity for friends & loved ones to pay their respects and share cherished memories of Edwin.

On December 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM, a funeral service will also be held at Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate Edwin's remarkable life, as we come together to find solace and strength in one another during this difficult time.

Following the funeral service, Edwin will be laid to rest at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, in Bridgeport, CT. The burial take place approx 11:30-11:45 AM on the same day, allowing us to bid a final farewell to our beloved Edwin.
