Edwin Francisco Ortiz Aponte

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edwin Francisco Ortiz Aponte, who entered eternal rest on June 29, 2025, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Born on March 11, 1959, in Puerto Rico, he was the beloved son of the late Angel Luis Ortiz Santos and Gloria Aponte Alvarado, who currently resides in Puerto Rico.

Edwin was a man of quiet strength, a calming presence to all who knew him. With hands that could fix anything and a heart that held no limits, he lived a life marked by love, loyalty, and authenticity. There was nothing too big or too small that Edwin wouldn’t do for his loved ones. A true handyman at heart, he found joy in solving problems and building things with care and purpose.

He was also a master in the kitchen—his legendary pernil was a taste of home for anyone lucky enough to try it, lovingly prepared with the traditional Puerto Rican flavors he carried with pride. Family gatherings weren’t complete without it, or without Edwin sharing stories, laughter, and that warm, welcoming smile.

His love for his family knew no bounds. Edwin is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Quiñones, and his children: Stephen M. Passaro, Edwin Ortiz, II and Christopher Ortiz, all of whom he cherished deeply. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren who were his greatest joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Ruben Santini, Reinaldo Ruiz, Francis Ruiz, Milagros Ruiz, Gloria I. Ruiz, Manuel Ruiz, and Pedro Garcia—each of whom held a special place in his heart.

And of course, always by his side was his faithful companion, Mocha, his beloved pit bull, who never left his side and shared in every quiet moment and every stroll through the parks he loved most.

Whether fishing at Seaside or Beardsley Park, Edwin found peace in nature’s embrace, casting his line and soaking in the serenity. It was in these simple pleasures that he found the richness of life.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Edwin’s life on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.

Edwin leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and quiet devotion. He will be missed deeply but remembered with profound gratitude by all who were blessed to know him.
