Gladys DeJesus
July 7, 1948 – May 24, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Gladys DeJesus, who entered into eternal rest on May 24, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. Born on July 7, 1948, in Patillas, Puerto Rico, Gladys lived a life rooted in love, faith, kindness, and devotion to her family and those around her.
Gladys was the beloved daughter of the late Santos Acabeo and the late Maximina Sanchez. A caring and selfless woman, she carried herself with a joyful spirit and a forgiving heart that touched the lives of many. Her unwavering love for God guided her throughout her life, and her warmth made others feel welcomed and cared for wherever she went.
Family was at the center of Gladys’ world. She was the loving mother of Luz Vega and the late Angel Vega. She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Olga Chats of Florida. Gladys was a proud and devoted grandmother to Keishla Tosado and Patrish Vega, and lovingly remembered her late grandson, Steven Vega. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many dear friends who will forever treasure the love and memories she shared with them.
Gladys found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments. She loved traveling, especially visiting her favorite place, Camuy, Puerto Rico. She enjoyed her coffee, adored fresh flowers, and never turned down a good plate of pasta—especially spaghetti. Her laughter, caring nature, and beautiful presence will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM within the funeral home, followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Gladys leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, faith, and beautiful memories that will continue to live on in all who loved her.
