Gloria Rivera

October 7, 1933 — October 17, 2022

Gloria Maria Rivera, 89, returned to the loving arms of the Lord at Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT.  She was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico to the late Pedro Mestre and the late Rafaela Rivas.  

Gloria was a woman a great faith and member of the Church of Christ until her retirement and move to Florida. She was a dedicated health care worker that took great pride in the care she provided. She often came home recounting funny moments she shared with patients and deeply mourned the loss of those who passed away. She was extremely shy in public settings but was quick to laugh and entertain those close to her. She was very frugal but extremely generous with anyone in need and those she loved. She adored her siblings and spoke of them with genuine love and admiration. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely and often commented with a beaming smile how she had the most beautiful and smartest grandchildren and great grandchildren in the world.

Gloria leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Luis Antonio Vazquez, Edwin and Zaida Bauza, Mildred Bauza, Josue Rivera, Gloria Taveras and Carlos Gonzalez; her grandchildren Jessenia Vazquez, Elba Vazquez and Benny Contreras, Jose and Yodilith Vazquez, Vilmarie Vazquez and Juan Soto, Francisco Taveras III, Shady Taveras and Chucky Fequiere, Gloria Taveras, Giovanni Gonzalez, Jeremy Gonzalez, Jose Rivera, Enitza Bauza,  Joshua Rivera and Gloria Ivette Rivera; 18 great grandchildren; her siblings Esther Mestre, Francisco Martinez and Nelly Padilla, Maria Antonia Martinez and Alberto Rivera, Pedro Manuel Mestre, Nydia Antonia Mestre, Norma Mestre and Efrain Rosado, Generosa Mestre, Myrna Maria Mestre and Gonzalo Rivera, Francisco and Rosa Mestre, and Teresa Mestre; her sisters-in-law Ramonita and Antonia Mestre; over 50 nephews and nieces and a host of relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.  She is predeceased by her brothers Pedro, Miguel and Alfredo Mestre.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
