Graciosa Berrios

On June 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, Graciosa Berrios peacefully entered eternal rest at her home in West Haven, Connecticut.  She was lovingly known as Sosi. She was 88 years old.

Born on June 3, 1938, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Graciosa was the cherished daughter of Patricio Ayala Figueroa and Camila DeLeon Sanchez. She spent her early years on the island she loved before relocating to the mainland United States in 1957, where she would build a life defined by hard work, perseverance, devotion to family, and an unforgettable spirit.

Graciosa belonged to a generation that understood sacrifice. She worked diligently throughout her life, spending years in the manufacturing industry before retiring from Lacey Manufacturing. Her work ethic was strong, but her love for family was even stronger. She was a woman who believed in caring for those she loved and remained steadfastly committed to her family throughout her life.

To know Graciosa was to know laughter. She possessed a feisty personality, a quick wit, and a sense of humor that could brighten any room. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures and knew how to make the most of every moment. She loved a good casino trip, attending parties, and spending time with family and friends. One of her most cherished memories was celebrating her 80th birthday aboard a cruise ship, surrounded by loved ones and doing what she enjoyed most—making memories.

She was fiercely devoted to her family and accepted nothing less than giving her best to those she cared about. Her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends were among her greatest treasures. Graciosa also carried a deep connection to her Puerto Rican roots. She remained proud of where she came from and often shared stories and memories of the island she called home. Among her accomplishments was building her home in Cupey Alto, Puerto Rico, a source of pride for her.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her children, Aurea Marrero and her husband Albert, Maria L. Reyes and her husband Luis, Julie Hanks, Midian Berrios, Johnnie Berrios and his wife Nancy, and Venito Berrios. She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren, and many great grandchildren each of whom brought great joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Arllin Collier.

While her family mourns the loss of her physical presence, they find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind—the laughter she shared, the lessons she taught, the strength she demonstrated, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Funeraria Luz de Paz. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Though she has departed from this earthly life, the love, laughter, and strength of Graciosa "Sosi" Berrios will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
