Hector Rafael Rodriguez, who was born on August 16, 1958, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Trumbull, Connecticut, surrounded by love.
Hector’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with passion, loyalty, and laughter. He was a true champion in every aspect, reflecting his bighearted nature, fiercely loyal personality, and energetic spirit. He was an accomplished karate instructor and owner of Rodriguez Karate Academy, As a 9th degree black belt and a three-time triple crown champion, karate was not just a career for Hector. He dedicated himself to shaping the next generation, instructing his students with a strict but loving hand, not only in the traditional martial arts but also in the essential skills they would need to succeed in life. His compassion and discipline made him not just an instructor, but a mentor and friend to many.
As a true champion Hector survived a liver transplant and faced all challenges with remarkable determination, fight and courage.
Hector also had a strong connection to the earth as shown by his love of being outdoors, long walks, gardening (growing his amazing tomatoes), the beach, every sunset and looking at the stars. He had a strong love and bond with all animals, especially his faithful companions Leon, Leo, Samson, Hercules, Sally, Zeus, Titan, Max, his first cat Geronimo and all the cats that followed. Hector was also a dazzling salsa dancer, captivating all withhis rhythm and energy. His political enthusiasm led him to run for state senate, demonstrating his commitment to making a difference in his community. He was a proud American and a valued member of the Knights of Columbus, exemplifying his dedication to service and fellowship.
Hector’s spirited personality filled every room he entered. With his witty sense of humor and ability to speak his mind, he made everyone around him feel valued and loved. His big personality attracted a large, cherished family.
Hector was preceded in death by his father, Rafael Rodriguez, and his mother, Eva Maria Perez Rivera. Hector is survived by his loving sisters, Eva Colon and Myriam Rodriguez, nieces Mirella, Evangelie, Maria, and Jasmine Colon and nephews Daniel and David Torres He is also survived by partner Ramonita Marquez and family Hector, Karoll, Nathaniel, Angel, Rosario Escalera and Angelia, Seth and Allex whom he loved and cherished as his own, and Rosemary Barvenik his devoted and forever love, the Gill family Marianne, Lawrence (predeceased) Shannon, Seth and Devin, the extended Barvenik family and all those who found a home at the Rodriguez Karate Academy.
As we remember Hector Rafael Rodriguez, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to family and community. His vibrant spirit will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him.

- Viewing on December 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on December 8, from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT.
- A Mass will be held on December 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 391 Ogden St, Bridgeport, CT.
- Burial will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave, Bridgeport, CT, starting at 11:30 AM.

Hector Rafael Rodriguez’s profound impact on his family, friends, and students will be felt for generations to come. He will be deeply missed – yet fondly remembered.
