Hector L. Rivera Roque
January 31, 1959 – September 11, 2026
Hector L. Rivera Roque, 67, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2026, Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT
Hector was born on January 31, 1959, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the beloved son of the late Juan Rivera and Josefina Roque. Proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, Hector later made Bridgeport his home, where he built his life, worked hard, and shared many years surrounded by family. Hector was a humble and hardworking man whose life reflected strength and perseverance. He worked in the transportation industry as a truck driver and also spent time working as an ambulance driver. At approximately 40 years of age, Hector suffered a serious stroke that brought significant changes and challenges to his life. Even so, his story continued to be shaped by endurance, family, and the relationships that remained so important to him. Above all, Hector’s greatest legacy was his family. He shared his life with his wife, Awilda Rivera. He was the proud father of Shirley Rivera (John Vazquez); Jennifer Rivera (Efrain Candelario); Hector L. Rivera (Destiny Rivera); and Hector D. Rivera (Damaris Rosario). He was also blessed with 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild who brought him great joy and whose lives will continue carrying his memory forward.Hector was a brother to Elsa Y. Rivera, John Rivera, Luis Rivera, Luis A. Rivera, Carlos J. Rivera, Walter Rivera, Rene Rivera, Miguelina Rivera, and Freddy Rivera.
Those who knew Hector will remember a man of humility, resilience, and quiet strength. His life was not without hardship, yet through the years he remained deeply woven into the lives of those around him. His presence, his familiar ways, and the memories created with family will remain treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Hector leaves behind far more than a record of the years he lived. He leaves a family that will carry his memory that will continue to bring both tears and smiles, and a love that time cannot erase.
