Herminio Planas Sr. Vazquez

Herminio Planas Vazquez, age 71, beloved husband of Ana Planas, of Bridgeport, passed into the Peaceful Glorious Rest of the Lord on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT while surrounded by his loving family. Herminio served our country in the Vietnam War, where he sacrificed himself for the freedoms and rights we have enjoyed throughout time. Wherever he went, his gracious personality won the attention and admiration of those he met. He worked as a social worker for the Dept. of Children and families for over 17 years before retiring. Prior to that, he worked at Neon in Norwalk, CT, where he cared for many of the elderly. He was an active member of the St. Peter's Parish for many years, along with his family. In addition to his wife, Herminio is survived by his sons: Herminio Planas, Jr. and his wife Diana, Dr. Luis G. Planas and his wife Jessica Alicea and Francisco Planas and his wife Tara Planas-Borgstrom; his brother Juan Planas and his wife Nelida; two sisters Esther Planas and Francisca Planas; his grandchildren Manuel, Daniel, Mila, Alana, Francisco, Gabriel and Maya; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Herminio will be sadly missed by so many, yet forgotten by none. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5-8 P.M. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, August 31, 2018 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Peter's Parish, 695 Colorado Avenue, Bridgeport, CT followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT. As with his entire family, education has always been an essential and vital part of their lives. Herminio wanted to be a blessing to others who seek to gain the education they desire, but otherwise could not.
