Iris Reyes

Iris Reyes, 72, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, was called home on Saturday, September 26, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on November 24, 1953 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Alberto Reyes and Herminia Rivera Reyes.

She lived in Connecticut for more than 65 years and was a graduate of Bassick High School, Class of 1972. Iris worked in customer service at Cablevision for many years and later retired from Whole Life, Inc., where she worked helping others who needed assistance with their daily care.

Iris was previously married to Luis Batista, and this union created what became an extended family between the small Reyes family and the very large Batista family—one that is as strong today as it was on day one.

She will be remembered by her loved ones for her smile, her kindness, her soft voice, her love of colors, her lipstick, and her whimsy. Her faith never wavered and carried her through until the very end.

Iris is survived by her daughter, Tanya Batista Shultz (Brian); her son, Luis Batista III (Samantha); her grandchildren, LaSean (Brianna), Adelina, Samantha, and Luis; her brother, Eduardo Reyes (Inez); her sister, Ana Reyes Belcher (Bernard); and many nieces, nephews, and members of her Batista family.

Many thanks to the staff at Bridgeport Hospital. Every person who was a part of her care was compassionate and kind. A special acknowledgment must go to LaSean and Brianna, who took care of her daily for the past year. Thank you for all you have endured, sacrificed, and done. Your relationship with your grandma was fun to watch (and referee). She will always have your back.

A celebration of Iris' life will take place on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.  Interment will follow immediately after at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, CT.
