Iris Mercedes Sanchez, a compassionate nurses aide and devoted family member, was born on May 19, 1950, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. She passed away peacefully in her home in Milford, Connecticut, on September 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, exemplifying the selfless spirit that defined her life.
An unwavering beacon of kindness, Iris dedicated her career to caring for those in need. Her empathy was not limited to her work; she also provided for her family and friends, always putting their needs before her own. Iris was an enthusiastic person who enjoyed dancing, it was a passion that enkindled joy and laughter in her life. She was an avid domino player, often gathering around the table with family, and infused every game night with warmth and laughter. Her adventurous spirit led her to frequent trips back to her beloved Puerto Rico, where she cherished memories of the vibrant culture and family connections.
Iris’s love for food was matched only by her love of sharing meals with those she cherished. Her proudest accomplishments were the treasured moments spent with her family—each gathering a testament to her devotion, love, and deep-rooted connections.
Iris leaves behind her loving partner of 56 years, Jose Rivera, and their children Rafael Febus, Jose A. Febus, Angel Febus (Alison), Yachayra Febus, and Virgen Rivera (Domingo). Her legacy continues with 13 precious grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who will carry forward the values of love, kindness, and community that she instilled in them. She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Carmen Castro (Carmelo), Reynaldo Sanchez (Janny), Lydia Sanchez, Carmen Delia Sanchez, Carmencita Sanchez (Neco), and Fernando Sanchez.
Iris was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Jose Febus Rivera, Grandmother Mama Carmen Sanchez and Mother Virginia Rodriguez and Father Octavio Sancez, who played a significant role in shaping the caring soul Iris became.
A viewing to remember and celebrate Iris's life will be held at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Monday. September 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the viewings, a burial service will take place at Park Cemetery Association, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, CT, starting at 1:30 PM.
Iris Mercedes Sanchez will be deeply missed, but her legacy of compassion and love will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
