Irma Sostre, a woman of strong character and unwavering love, passed away on April 14, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. Born on November 29, 1951, in Maunabo, Puerto Rico, Irma touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey. Although her passing was tragic and unexpected, she has now returned to the loving arms of the Lord, surrounded by the deep affection of her cherished family.

Irma’s life was a testament to devotion, both in her work and her personal passions. She worked in the school serving meals for children. She also enjoyed seeing the children eat. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Beyond her career, Irma found joy in simple yet meaningful pursuits—solving puzzles, tending to vibrant flowers, caring for dogs, and most profoundly, nurturing her grandchildren with boundless love and attention.

Her legacy lives on through her beloved children: Lisa Perez (and Jose Torres), and Dimas Marquez Perez (and Wanda Figueroa). Her grandchildren – Michael, Latrell, Isaiah, Ashley, Crystal, Nykole, Destiney, and Joey – along with six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews carry forward the warmth and strength that defined her life. She is also mourned by her siblings Sonia, Felix Jr( and Lesbia), Ricardo( and Annie), and Gloria( and Gaby) Maria Lurdez, also preceded by late brother Victor. Bonds of family brought her comfort and joy throughout the years.

Irma was preceded by her loving parents, Modestro Sostre and Juana Ramos. Though they have passed before her, their love and influence remain forever imprinted in her heart and ours.

A viewing to honor and remember Irma’s beautiful spirit will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06608. This gathering offers a moment for all who knew her to pay tribute to a woman who embodied resilience, kindness, and dedication.

Irma Sostre’s life was a mosaic of love, strength, and compassion—a tapestry woven with threads of family, faith, and community. She will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to bloom like the flowers she tended, forever brightening the hearts of those who knew her.
