Jorge Gabriel Benitez, age 52, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born on June 11, 1974, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Jorge carried tremendous pride in his Puerto Rican heritage throughout his life. Jorge is the beloved husband of his wife Nikki Benitez (nee Thompson). He was a man who knew who he was and rarely left anyone wondering where he stood. Strong-minded, assertive, dependable, and set in his ways, he approached life with conviction and determination. Beneath that strong exterior, however, was a deeply loyal and caring man whose greatest motivation was the well-being of the people he loved. His family was at the center of his world, and much of what he did was driven by his desire to protect, provide for, and make life better for them. A hardworking man by nature, Jorge worked as an automotive mechanic, a profession well suited to someone who enjoyed working with his hands, understanding how things worked, and finding a way to make things right. Sitting still simply was not quite his style.

Outside of work, Jorge enjoyed music, going out to eat, and watching movies. He appreciated spending time with the people he loved and found happiness in the ordinary moments shared with family and friends. He was someone others could depend upon, and his presence brought a sense of strength and reassurance to those around him.

Jorge leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Nikki Benitez (nee Thompson), his father, Jose Gabriel Torres Gonzalez; his mother, Alejandrina Arzuaga; his siblings, Mayra Torres, Marilyn Mendez, and Jose G. Torres; along with extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his loyalty, determination, and unmistakable personality. Jorge’s life was defined not simply by the strength with which he expressed himself, but by the reason behind that strength. He wanted those he loved to be protected, cared for, and provided for. His ways may have been firm, and his opinions may have been certain, but his heart remained firmly attached to his family.

Public Viewing will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, 3-6 PM at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.

His absence will be deeply felt, but the lessons he taught through his work ethic, loyalty, perseverance, and devotion to family will remain. Those who knew Jorge will remember a man who stood his ground, worked hard, loved strongly, and remained unmistakably himself until the very end.
