Jose Pereira Alves, born on February 12, 1958, in Calvao, Portugal, passed away peacefully at his residence in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on December 22, 2025. He lived a life full of dedication and passion, particularly as a construction worker, where he was known for his hard work and commitment. His talents shined brightly in every project he undertook, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Jose was affectionately known as "Porky". He was not just recognized for his skills on the job but also for his vibrant personality. He was a very social and intuitive man, who could light up any room with his charm. Conversations with him were always engaging as he had a remarkable ability to connect with others and remember the smallest details about their lives after only a few interactions. Jose’s loving and happy nature touched the hearts of many, making him a beloved figure in his community.
A keen and prolific green thumb, Porky found joy in nurturing plants and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved immersing himself in the nostalgic world of old westerns, with reruns of shows like Bonanza, Gunsmoke, M.A.S.H., and his favorite characters like Porky Pig and Scooby-Doo providing comfort and laughter during his leisure time.
Porky leaves behind his cherished spouse, Vanessa Walsh, and his beloved sons, Joey Alves, and David Meredith, along with their wives, Toni and Sally. His legacy continues through his precious grandchildren: Taylor Alves, Italia and Giovanni Meredith, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is survived by his siblings: Manny, Isaura, Emilia, and Ana, along with many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his gentle spirit and loving guidance. Jose was preceded in death by his brother, Jack, and his parents Antonio Alves and Maria Pereira, and they will surely welcome him with open arms.
