Julia M. Torres

April 4, 1924 — December 4, 2023

Bridgeport

Julia M. Torres, a remarkably talented seamstress known for her ability to sew everything from a simple scarf to an elaborate wedding gown, has passed away at the age of 99, in her home in Bridgeport, CT. Julia was born on April 4, 1924, in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, and throughout her life, she left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Although her age is documented as 99 years old, it is believed by her siblings that she may be 101 to 102 years old due to how registrations occurred back on the Island at times years after birth.

Despite facing the evitable challenges of life, it was Julia's unwavering love and care for those around her that truly defined her. Her genuine demeanor and beautiful personality radiated warmth and kindness, making her a beloved confidant and a reliable source of wisdom to all. Julia encapsulated the true essence of being a wife, motherhood, grand motherhood, and more, nurturing not only her children and grandchildren but also extending that love to any child who crossed her path.

Julia's incredible skills as a seamstress brought joy and beauty into the lives of many. Her dedication to her craft allowed her to create breathtaking garments that left people in awe of her talent. From humble beginnings sewing garments for family and close friends, Julia's skills grew to such an extent that she became sought after for weddings and special occasions.

The mark Julia left on those around her extended far beyond her talents as a seamstress. With an unconditional love that knew no limits, she touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Whether it was through a comforting word, a warm embrace, or a genuine smile filled with compassion, Julia had an innate ability to make others feel seen and loved.

Julia faced health challenges later in life, bravely battling Alzheimer's disease for about 24 years. Despite these difficult circumstances, she found solace under the care of her devoted daughter Marta who lovingly looked after her during the past decade when she was bedbound. She may have lost her ability to walk due to her condition, but never lacked the amount of love and care needed to keep living.

Julia will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that will continue to inspire future generations.

Julia is survived by her children Carmen N. Perez, Marta Velez, and Lillian Torres. Her grandchildren Francisco Perez Jr., Diana Perez, Lillian Collazo (Luis), Lisette Pizarro, Xavier Torres, and Alexis Torres will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her great-grandchildren  Gilberto Perez, Joseph Perez, Gustavo Perez Jr., Rebecca Perez, James Perez, Rene Perez, Emanuel Martinez, Kiara Martinez, Aiyana Collazo, Julian Collazo, Nicholas Collazo, Jaylen Glover, Jacob Torres, Xavier Torres Jr., Joell Torres, and Alexis Star Torres will honor her legacy with their lives. Additionally, Julia's great-great-grandchildren Tiffany Perez, Issac Perez, Sophia Perez, Aleiha Lopez, Nova Perez, Keilani Torres, and Jaylani Torres, all will cherish memories of their extraordinary great-great-grandmother. Her two remaining siblings (out of Many), Concepcion Gonzalez and Anibal Gonzalez.  Julia was predeceased by her husband Edilberto Torres Sr., her son Edilberto Torres Jr., and her eldest grandson Gustavo Perez Sr., and great-granddaughter Jessica Colon. She is also reunited in heaven with her parents Evangelista Torres and Petrolina Santiago. Julia will also be missed by her stepchildren Ivette Anderson (Marcus), Manuel Velez, Carlos Velez, and Miguel Velez who also played a vital role in Julia's life.

The celebration of Julia's life will be held at Funeraria Luz De Paz at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport CT 06608. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 11th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, December 12th from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM.
