Manuel "Nolo" Ayala, a beloved member of the Bridgeport community, passed away on November 13, 2023, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, CT. He was born on January 26, 1932, in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. Manuel led a remarkable life dedicated to serving his community and uplifting those around him.

Manuel was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served his country with honor and distinction. His dedication to protecting our freedoms, serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the principles he held dear.

Manuel's colorful and dynamic career included working and retiring from General Electric as a supervisor where he took great pride in being part of a company that manufactured products here in Bridgeport. For over decade, he was one of the most influential voices in Fairfield County's Hispanic community through his radio program on 1400 WNLK AM known as "La Voz Latina". As a radio DJ, he became a household name where he brought joy and entertainment to countless listeners with his passion for music and talking about matters impacting the Latino community.

As an active member of the Democratic Party, Manuel was deeply engaged in civic matters. He had a long-standing commitment to public service, having served as an elected City Sheriff for Bridgeport for an impressive fifteen years. In addition, Manuel also served as a city councilman from 2009 to 2011, representing the east side of Bridgeport. Through his involvement, he sought to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities and championed their rights and needs. As president of the Marionville COOP, Manuel displayed exceptional leadership skills and promoted initiatives that aimed to improve the lives of those around him.

His faith guided him through life's challenges and inspired him to be kind-hearted and compassionate towards others. Known for his vibrant personality and sense of humor, Manuel brightened every room he entered. Affectionately known as "Nolo," he loved life and cherished every opportunity to interact with people on a daily basis. Manuel was unapologetic and equally authentic. These traits helped him inspire others and become a pillar of his family.

In his leisure time, Manuel found solace and joy in his hobbies such as watching old westerns on TV. He loved cars, especially anything vintage that reflected the days of his youth.  He was a competitor and loved watching Mets and Yankees games. As he aged, he took great pleasure in feeding wild birds, finding solace in their presence. Most importantly, Manuel loved life and was not afraid to take risks.

Manuel, the beloved husband of Maria Ayala, leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and devotion. Together they raised a wonderful family filled with love and laughter. Manuel is survived by his children: Ileana Ayala (Nelson), Sonia Hernandez (Rafael), and Kelvin Ayala.
