Manuel A. Lopes, a dearest husband, father, and friend to many, passed away on September 5, 2026, in Bridgeport, CT. He was born on October 3, 1959, in São Filipe, on the beautiful island of Fogo, Cabo Verde.
In 2000, Manuel and his beloved wife, Maria, along with their three children, made the courageous journey from Cabo Verde to the United States in search of new opportunities and a better life for their family. Over the years, they built their home and family in Bridgeport, creating a life filled with memories, friendships, laughter, and the traditions of their Cape Verdean roots.
Manuel was a man with a personality that was impossible to forget. He will be remembered as a man who found joy in life’s simple and heartfelt pleasures. He enjoyed music and singing, especially karaoke, and brought warmth and spirit wherever songs were shared. He was also a devoted soccer enthusiast, both on the field in his youth and as a spectator, and remained a loyal fan of the Lisbon soccer team, Sporting CP. He enjoyed watching Western cowboy movies and was often seen at the local Cape Verdean Club, where his presence was part of the familiar rhythm of the community.
Above all, Manuel’s memory lives on in the family who loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Marcelina Barbosa Lopes. He also leaves his adoring children, Mylva, Marcio, Mathew, Moises, and Marilyn Lopes; his siblings, Luis Filipe and Hena; and a host of friends and relatives who will miss him dearly. Each of them carries forward the memory of his voice, his interests, and the moments they shared with him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Marcus Lopes; his father, Manuel Lopes; his mother, Maria Gonçalves; and his siblings, Mery and Duxa. Their memories remained a lasting part of his life, and they are now reunited with him in peace.
Family and friends are invited to honor Manuel’s life at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06608, on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604.
Manuel A. Lopes will be remembered with love by all who knew him, and his memory will remain forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
