Maria Flores, a steadfast pillar of love, resilience, and unyielding care, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, in the comfort of her home in Bridgeport, CT. Born on September 2, 1928, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Maria’s life was a powerful tapestry of devotion, nurturing spirit, and enduring warmth that touched all privileged to know her.

She was more than a diligent and reliable machinist who devoted many years to the manufacturing industry; she was the heart of her family and community. With a spunky and feisty charm wrapped in a fiercely nurturing soul, Maria opened her home to all who needed it, without hesitation or question. Her daily ritual of preparing generous meals was not merely about feeding bodies but about nourishing hearts, ensuring that every plate carried with it a profound sense of belonging and love. Those who entered her sanctuary were never strangers but honored guests embraced by a fiery, loving caretaker whose spirit was as spicy as it was sweet.

Maria’s vivacious personality bloomed through her deep Catholic faith, a pillar she upheld faithfully as long as her health permitted. The Mass was for her a sacred melody of hope and grace, underscoring a life led with devotion and humility. Outside the solemn beauty of worship, Maria indulged in the joyful pleasures of life—adoring dressing up with makeup, savoring outings to McDonald’s and Dunkin Donuts, and partaking in the simple delight of shopping sprees that added sparkle to her days.

Her proudest accomplishments were the generations she raised—not only her children but her nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. Her family was vast, intricate, and treated with the same tender care as if each one were her very own. Above all, her greatest triumph was the meticulous and dignified care she provided for her beloved daughter, Maria Socorro Flores, affectionately known as Sokie, who passed four years prior. This devotion epitomized Maria’s unbreakable spirit and boundless capacity to love.

Maria Flores leaves behind a living legacy of love and kinship. She is survived by her cherished daughter Lucy Rivera and son Ramiro Flores, who stands with his wife Jo Ann. Her grandchildren—Elson Morales with Monica, Thomas Morales with Emily, Daniel Bernabe with Sara, Nicole Flores Blackman with Steve, Ramiro Flores III, Mariano Rivera, George Rivera, and Vivian Rivera—carry forward her memory, alongside eight precious great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren who continue to bask in the light of her generosity. Her sister, Gloria Iris Aponte, remains a steadfast presence in this circle of love.

She also bids farewell to those who went before her, including her beloved daughter Maria Socorro Flores, her son Luis Rivera, her beloved husband Ramiro Flores, her parents Arturo Aponte and Juana Alvarado, and her brother Manuel Aponte Alvarado. Though they have journeyed on, the echoes of their love and memories live vividly within her heart and ours.

Maria’s visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT.  Her final resting place will be at Park Cemetery Association, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, CT, with burial commencing at 1:00 p.m.

As we gather to honor Maria Flores, we remember a woman whose mind was sharp and spirit vibrant until her final moments. Embraced by the love of her family, her legacy of boundless care, fiery heart, and unwavering faith will forever inspire those who knew her. Maria was truly a nurturer, a beacon of love, and a home to all—a remarkable life, exquisitely lived.
