Maria A. Navarro, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Born on August 22, 1933, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Maria effused warmth and compassion throughout her life, always placing her family at the heart of her existence. She was a fiercely independent spirit, known for her strong-mindedness and nurturing demeanor, traits that defined her not only as a mother but as an irreplaceable source of strength to those around her.
As a dedicated salesperson in the retail industry, Maria approached her career with a zest for life that radiated into every facet of her existence. She took pride in the accomplishments of her family, having lovingly dedicated her life to her husband and children. Her legacy is filled with cherished memories, from her caring nature toward her miniature poodle, Charlie, to the countless moments spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will fondly remember her vibrant personality and the warmth she brought into their lives.
Maria is survived by her loving children, Marjorie Ann Vega, Thomas Torres, Edward Marrero, John A. Marrero, and Raymond Marrero. Her spirit will continue to thrive through her 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, whose lives have been forever touched by her love and nurturing presence. She also leaves behind her brother, Jesus Morales, who provided her with companionship and support throughout her life.
In addition to her adored family, Maria had a range of hobbies that enriched her days. She found joy in completing word searches, tending to her garden, watching game shows, and dedicating Sundays to her favorite music. These simple pleasures brought her immense joy and served as a reflection of her spirited and lively character. Maria was best known for the abundance of delightful meals that she lovingly prepared daily. Those who were privileged to taste her delicious Puerto Rican cuisine always came back for more. Tales of her legendary dishes will live on for generations.
Maria's memory will be honored through a viewing held at Funeraria Luz De Paz in 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT, on Sunday, July 13 from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM and once again on Monday, July 14, at 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 25 Sherman Ave., Bridgeport, CT at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, NY at 12:45 PM.
