Maria L. Villanueva-Acevedo, age 78, currently of Hamden, CT passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 1, 1945, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to Dionisio and Julia Villanueva, Maria was imbued with a gentle soul that radiated love and compassion to whomever she came across throughout her life. She possessed a remarkable talent in the kitchen and was revered for her mastery of the dying art of making pasteles. Family events were eagerly anticipated by all, as they knew they would be treated to the delectable delicacy of Maria's Pork Shoulder – a culinary creation that could only be described as sheer perfection.
While music held a special place in Maria's heart, it paled in comparison to her profound love for the Lord. For many years, she selflessly served at the "Fuente de Salvation," sharing her unwavering faith with her brothers and sisters in Christ. It was through this service that Maria found solace and strength, continuously inspiring those around her through her selflessness and unwavering devotion.
Although grief now grips the hearts of those left behind, it is important to remember that Maria has embarked on a new journey – one where pain and suffering could never hold power over her gentle soul. Her legacy will forever live on through countless memories and cherished moments shared together.
A Visitation will be held on February 19, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Funeraria Luz De Paz in Bridgeport, CT.
The funeral service will commence at the same location, starting at 10:00 A.M. On February 20, 2024, we will be gathered once again to bid a final farewell following interment which will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, CT. The burial ceremony will commence at approx. 11:45 AM.
Maria's legacy of love and compassion will forever be carried forward by her surviving family and close friends who hold her dear in their hearts. Her sons, Jose Diaz De Villegas (Julissa Rodriguez) and Ricardo Diaz De Villegas (Erica) mourn the loss of their beloved mother while finding solace in the cherished memories they shared with her. Gianna L. Diaz de Villegas, Maria's granddaughter, will forever treasure the bond they forged over the years.
In addition to her immediate family, Maria leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends whose lives have been irrevocably touched by her presence. She was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support for those fortunate enough to call her friend.
Maria L. Villanueva-Acevedo's departure leaves a void that cannot be filled; however, we find solace in knowing that she has found eternal peace in the warm embrace of our Heavenly Father. Though we grieve today, let us also celebrate the remarkable life she led and honor her memory with every act of love and kindness bestowed upon others.
