Maritza I. Velez, a remarkable woman known for her unwavering strength and determination, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Born on June 4, 1961, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Maritza lived her life with a fierce passion for achieving her dreams and a deep love for her family.
She was a driving force in the lives of everyone who knew her, demonstrating a relentless pursuit of her goals. Once Maritza set her mind on something, she would not rest until she accomplished it, inspiring all who had the privilege of witnessing her tenacity. Her spirit was matched only by her love for the sweet, simple pleasures in life. Maritza found joy in her evening ritual of indulging in a slice of chocolate cake accompanied by rich ice cream, a small joy that brought her immense comfort.
Maritza leaves behind her loving children: Edgardo Rivera, Annette Rivera, and Miguel Miranda (partnered with Angie), who will forever cherish the memories of their incredible mother. She was also blessed with adoring grandchildren: Samantha, Dejhalee, Penelope, Anabelle, Angel, and a great granddaughter Dianna each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride. She also leaves behind her mother Clotilde Hernandez.
She is survived by her beloved siblings: Jacqueline Rivera, Vilma Rivera, and Santiago Collazo, who shared countless cherished moments and stories with her. Maritza's warmth and love will undoubtedly resonate within the hearts of her family for generations to come.
Maritza was preceded in death by her father, Luis L. Velez, and her brother, Luis Velez. Their memories will forever remain a part of her legacy.

Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06608, on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This gathering will allow family and friends to share their love and support, honoring a truly extraordinary woman who touched the lives of many.
