Nelson Bernard was born on December 19, 1962, in Bridgeport, Connecticut and peacefully returned to the loving arms of the Lord on February 7, 2026, in New Britain, CT surrounded by the love of his family.
Nelson had an amazing heart and disposition to spend time talking, eating and sharing with those considered "Less fortunate".
Nelson is Survived by his loving wife of 43 years to Maureen Bernard; and father of Zulma Delgado (Hipolito) Raydeen Brungard ( Luis), Iswonette Bernard-Woser. (Jigme), Mariana Benito (Nagee) and Antonio Benito. He loved his children and their spouses. He greatly cherished his family and Is a grandfather to ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom brings him immense joy and pride.
Nelson had 11 siblings and 5 are predeceased. He is survived by his loving siblings who were very close to him, Ernesto Bernard, Manuel Bernard, Violeta Bernard, Emma Bernard(Domingo) and Lillian Bernard. Additionally, he is survived by his nephew and nieces and their spouses, Felix Gonzalez Jr. (Esther) Zulma Padilla ( Isaac) and Adilia Bernard (Nie), along with many extended family members and dear friends. Nelson is predeceased by his parents Catalina Rodriguez & Julio Bernard.
Nelson had a deep love for his family and children and found joy in meaningful conversations, family gatherings and especially trying to make a difference in the community, and spending time with those around him. He enjoyed music, dancing, and taking pride in his appearance—always enjoying getting dressed and looking sharp. Those who know him best describe him as someone who carried a contagious energy and a genuine warmth that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
All are invited to attend a celebration of the extraordinary life of Nelson Bernard on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
