Orlando Colón
With deep sorrow and heartfelt respect, we announce the passing of Orlando Colón, who entered eternal rest on January 28, 2026, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Orlando was born on November 5, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Jaime Colón Rivera and the late María L. Colón González.
Orlando was a rare soul—selfless, protective, and quietly generous. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without hesitation, stepping in to help when others might turn away. A natural problem-solver, he embraced those in need with sincerity and action, never seeking recognition for the good he did. Only now are many learning just how much he gave of himself to others, because Orlando never spoke of it—he simply did it.
He had a deep appreciation for old cars, valuing the craftsmanship, quality, and character of a time gone by. He enjoyed restoring them, admiring them, and honoring the way things used to be built—with care and intention. Though selective about those he kept close, Orlando was fiercely loyal and deeply protective of his circle, always standing guard over those he loved. Orlando was a family man enjoyed just spending quality time at home with his wife and their service animal Leah who he adored. He enjoyed taking walks at the beach with his soulmate and enjoyed fishing with his mother-in-law, Luz which he called mom. He also had a great relationship with his brother-in-laws, Porfirio Lopez and Juan Ayala of Massachusetts. Orlando also had a close connection with Iliana who he called "prima" and her husband Papa who he would often spend time with. Orlando also had a close relationship with his father-in-law, Juan Ayala who everyone knew as Papo and his wife Doris. They had a special bond from the moment they met.
He is survived by his wife, Beatriz Ayala whom he met in Massachusetts over 25 years ago; his beloved son, Orlando Colón, Jr.; his sisters Lissette Colon and Lourdes Colon, cherished grandson, Orlando Colón III; and his niece, Julyssa Miranda. He is also lovingly remembered by a very special cousin, Gladys Cid, whose constant care was felt through her presence, homemade meals, long visits, and meaningful conversations. He also leaves behind six nephews, along with many cousins, uncles, and aunts residing in Puerto Rico, Florida, California, South Carolina, and New York.
Orlando is lovingly remembered by his lifelong friend—his “ride or die,” brother in heart—Ricardo “Ricky” Rodríguez Hernández, whom he had known since grammar school and considered family in every sense of the word. He is also remembered by his brother, boss, and friend, Mike Morales of Shelton, Connecticut, with whom he worked closely at the restaurant formerly known as La Cagueña in Bridgeport, Connecticut, always going above and beyond in everything he did.
He is further remembered by his dear friend Christian Torres who was his brother in his heart. They were an important and cherished presence in each other's lives. Orlando’s circle of friends was vast and meaningful, including his barber, Maggie. Though too many to name, each one knows who they are. He touched their lives deeply, and every one of them carries a story that reflects the impact he made.
Orlando will be remembered as a genuinely good man—strong yet compassionate, guarded yet deeply loving—whose impact reached far beyond what he ever let on. He was an active member of Iglesia Cristiana Renacer in Bridgeport, CT. He was a member of this church for many years where his faith grew as a Christian. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the help he gave in silence, and the love he showed through action.
Friends are invited to attend calling hours to be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service, all to take place at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
