Otilia Cordero, a beacon of light and love to all who knew her, passed away on June 12, 2025, in Derby, Connecticut. Born on November 27, 1938, in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, Otilia's journey through life was marked by her undeniable spirit, fierce devotion to her family, and a heart that radiated warmth to those around her.
Throughout her career as a machinist at Emson Research, Otilia was cherished not only for her skills but also for the kindness she shared with her colleagues. She carried this same devotion into her personal life, always yearning for the best for her loved ones. Her smile, described as the window to her soul, could brighten even the darkest of days, and nothing brought her greater joy than the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter and love filled her heart with happiness, lighting up her face and the lives of everyone around her.
In her final years, Otilia was lucky to have her granddaughter, Lisa, as her devoted care-provider, who spent the last five years ensuring that Otilia felt loved, comfortable, and cherished. Her grandson, Jose, brought immense joy to her life as he did his best to make her feel better and offered unwavering support during her time of need.
Otilia had an impressive collection of elephants, a symbol of wisdom and strength, which she lovingly gifted to friends and family over the past year. This act reflected her generous nature and her desire to share pieces of herself with those she loved. Her legacy is woven through these precious gifts, reminding her family and friends of the love, strength, and resilience she embodied.
Special mention is made of Wilfredo Dejesus and his family, who surrounded Otilia with love throughout her life. The bonds they built together are a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Otilia is survived by her daughter, Wanda Valentin Dejesus; her son-in-law, Wilfredo Dejesus; and her cherished grandchildren: Jose Rodriguez Jr. (Yuneidys Prenza) and Lisa Ivelys Dejesus (Clea Alamo). Her great-grandchildren, Jay Luis Rodriguez, Meredith Cornelison "Gringa," Lorenzo Joey Rodriguez "Pollito," and Jasmine Lidia Rodriguez "Muñeca," brightened her world and brought her endless happiness.
She will also be remembered fondly by her siblings: Juan, Alida, Miriam, Fernando, Nelson, Jose, Jose L., Luz C., Miguel, Benjamin, Ramon "Monchi," Ana, Maria, and Luz E.; as well as her Hermanas/o del Alma: Carmen Gomez, Francisca Matos, Antonia Mercado, Delia Mercado, Olga Rodriguez, and William Rodriguez.
Otilia was preceded in death by her beloved father, David Bermudez; her mother, Maria Luisa Rodriguez; her son, Gerardo Valentin; and her sister, Carmen Bermudez.
A life well-lived, Otilia's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of love, resilience, and devotion will be cherished for generations to come.
