Raft John Angelo, age 69 of Bridgeport, CT passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Raft who was affectionately known as “Dubie,” was born on August 9, 1954 in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Raft and Johanna (Baptista) Angelo.
Dubie grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut and enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served from 1971-1974 during the Vietnam War Conflict and was stationed overseas in Germany. He was assigned to the 5th Combat Company as an equipment storage specialist. After being honorably discharged from the Army at the rank of PFC, he went on to work at various jobs until his retirement.
Dubie will be fondly remembered as an R&B enthusiast who loved listening to the Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and the like. He loved visiting New York City and embracing everything the culture of the city had to offer. Dubie always wore a New York Yankees ballcap. A veteran through and through, he continued serving his country in his community by volunteering with the City of Bridgeport Veterans Affairs. He will truly be missed by all who knew him especially his family.
He is predeceased by his father Raft C. Angelo, brother Richard Angelo, and niece Melanie A. Sequeira.
He is survived by his loving mother Mrs. Johanna Baptista-Angelo of Bridgeport, two sisters Maria Angelo of Elgin, South Carolina and Cynthia (Hipolito) Vega of Bridgeport, four beloved children Johanna D. Angelo, Kristina Angelo, John (Sharice) Angelo, Erick M. Angelo; his grandchildren Izeyha Rosario, John Michael Angelo, Victoria Angelo, Mateo Colon, and Mason Angelo; one adoring great-grand daughter Ky’la Rosario. A special nephew who was like a son: Christopher Vega, nephews Richard Mercado and Raymond Mercado, several uncles, aunts, cousins, and his companion Rozena Miller.
Friends may greet the family on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. A burial with full military honors will take place on Friday, May 10 at 12:00 noon at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457. Those wishing to attend the burial will meet directly at the cemetery.
