Listen to Obituary

Ramon "Moncho" Jesus Martinez Perez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was born on November 5, 1951, in Lajas, Puerto Rico, and at the tender age of 16, he took a leap of faith to move to Connecticut with his uncle Miguel, beginning a journey that would see him touch many lives.

Ramon dedicated many years as a loyal laborer to Acme United Shear and General Electric until the Bridgeport location closed.  He was School Bus Driver and a Driving School Instructor.  Afterward, he embraced a new role that would become a testament to his caring spirit, serving as a patient transporter at St. Vincent's Medical Center Outreach Center, for 25 years. His colleagues admired him not just for his work ethic but also for the compassion he extended to every patient he encountered.  He always proclaimed that he worked with a great team there.   That Team to this day have maintained communication and a closed friendship no matter the distance.  As a result, he was accoladed as Employee of the Year in 1994.  One of his former supervisor stated "he was the mission in action".

Outside of work, Ramon was a skilled handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing a neighbor's door or lending his expertise in home repair. His passion for life extended to his hobbies; he was an experienced horseback rider, an avid fisherman who found solace and joy by the water. He cherished countless afternoons casting his line, relishing the peace that came with each gentle ripple of the water.  Moncho was a competitive domino player and enjoyed plucking the strings of his guitar.   An ardent fan of classic western cinema, Ramon  could often be found enjoying the adventures of his favorite characters on screen. He also delighted in watching episodes of Storage Wars, finding humor and fascination in the stories behind the treasures.  He relished in celebrating the Christmas season with his family and spreading holiday cheer in parrandas and traditional pig roasts while living in Puerto Rico.

Family was the heart of Ramon's life. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Luz Villanueva Martinez, and his children, Richard Martinez and Cynthia Martinez-Mellow (Earl). He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Da'Monique, Imani, Aaliyah, and Victor Raymond, each grandchild holding a special place in his heart.

Ramon's ties to his siblings were strong; he leaves behind his brothers and sisters:   Juan, Luis, Ana, Abraham, Marcelino, Samuel, Betty, Monserrate, and Mayra. Their memories together are woven with love and laughter, creating a lasting legacy of family bonds.

Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, Marcelino Martinez and Ana Mercedes Perez Ortiz, and by his brother, Ruben Peraza. Their spirits will forever be intertwined with his.

As we remember Ramon, we celebrate a life dedicated to service, love, and family. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. His warm smile and kind heart will be dearly missed but will always remain a guiding light in the lives of those he touched.

All are welcomed to celebrate Ramon's life on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.  A mass of Christian Burial will also be celebrated at 1:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 275 Union Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.  Final interment will be held in his beautiful hometown of Lajas, Puerto Rico.
