Robert Hernandez

Robert Hernandez, father, grandfather, brother, and best friend to all who loved him, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, in his home while surrounded by his loving family at the age of 65. He was born on October 16, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York and became a longtime resident of Bridgeport’s Southside in the early 70’s. 

In September 2017, Robert was the recipient of a kidney transplant from his son in law, Alfredo Perez Jr. who selflessly donated his kidney. The Hernandez family is forever grateful for his sacrifice and the extra time it gave them to create and cherish everlasting memories with Robert. 

Robert was known as the backbone of his family. He will be remembered for his supporting personality, known to give his last to anyone in need, his love for his children and grandchildren, his strength in brotherhood, and passion for baseball and salsa. 

Many will remember Robert as a devout Pittsburgh Pirates fan, but few know that his team loyalty came from his admiration for Roberto Clemente. Robert aspired to be just as empathetic and charitable to those around him in the hopes of having a positive impact on his community and those he loved. His reputation for making a way, when others saw none, will be his legacy. 

The days will feel a little less soulful without his multitude of YouTube texts encouraging his friends and family to “check out this song,” but his spirit will dance along them as an avid salsero at the drop of any beat.

Family meant everything to Robert. He will be remembered by his surviving children: Dior, Mellisa Celeste Hernandez (Justo Alfaro), Priscilla Hernandez, Robert Hernandez Jr., and Tiffany Rivera Torres. Additionally, Robert leaves behind his grandchildren of whom he thought the world: Xavier, Jaedyn, Jaylene, Aziyah, Savanna, Aniyah, and Argenis Jr.

Robert is the first of his siblings to join their parents, Ricardo and Adelina, in heaven. We know that he will watch over his siblings: Adeline Rivera, Richard Hernandez, Oneida Sanchez, Charles Hernandez, Edwin Hernandez, Evelyn Hernandez, Ralphy Hernandez, David Hernandez, Vicky Hernandez, Pablo (Paul) Hernandez, Anthony “Scooter” Simpson, David Osorio, and best friend Mark Harp as an unwavering guardian angel. 

His impact extended beyond his immediate family as he will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and countless friends. 

Visitation services will take place at Funeraria Luz De Paz, 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT, on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A final viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The burial ceremony will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport at 11:30 AM.

Robert's unexpected departure has left a void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for life, listening ear, compassion, and humbleness will forever stay etched in our hearts. May we find solace in the memories we shared and remember him as a beacon of light amidst the darkness.
