Sonia I. Orriola

October 27, 1950 — May 17, 2026

Sonia I. Orriola, age 73, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, entered eternal rest on May 17, 2026, at Bridgeport Hospital. Born on October 27, 1950, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Sonia carried with her the warmth, strength, and love of her family throughout her entire life.

A hardworking woman, Sonia dedicated many years working and always doing what she could to provide for and care for those she loved. More than anything, Sonia lived for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she sacrificed endlessly to make sure they were cared for, supported, and loved.

Sonia was known for her strong belief in God and family values. Her caring heart made her loved and cherish throughout her life. She enjoyed fishing, cooking for her children and family gatherings. Those who knew her will always remember her as a devoted mother and grandmother whose home and heart were always open to the people she loved most.

She is survived by her beloved children: Sonia I. Aldiva, Brenda Curbelo, Fexabel Curbelo, Grisela Curbelo, Hector Curbelo, Edwin Joel Rivera, and Keisha Lopez. Sonia also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Luis Angel Orriola, Angel Luis Orriola, and Edwin Orriola, along with 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

She was predeceased by her parents, Luis A. Orriola and Fé Ester Acevedo.

Family and friends may gather to honor Sonia’s life on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT.

Final disposition will take place privately.

Although her family’s hearts are heavy, Sonia’s love, strength, and memories will continue living on through every life she touched. A mother’s love never leaves — it simply watches over us differently.
