Teresa Legarreta, una destacada empresaria y querida artesana, falleció en paz el 6 de mayo de 2026 en su residencia en Bridgeport. Nació el 12 de mayo de 1940 en Lares, Puerto Rico. El espíritu vibrante y el alma creativa de Teresa enriquecieron la vida de todos los que la conocieron. Habría celebrado su cumpleaños número 86 pocos días después, un conmovedor recordatorio del legado perdurable que deja atrás. Teresa no solo fue una esposa y madre dedicada, sino también una emprendedora extraordinaria. 

Fue propietaria y administradora de su propia tienda, reflejo de su determinación y dedicación. El profundo orgullo que sentía por sus raíces se manifestaba en su arte, ya que era una artesana certificada y registrada de artesanías tradicionales puertorriqueñas. Con un gran sentido del humor y una creatividad sin límites, Teresa transformaba delicados hilos en hermosas ropas de bebé tejidas a crochet, creando cada pieza con inmenso amor y esmero. Estas delicadas creaciones eran preciados símbolos de su naturaleza afectuosa y de su compromiso con preservar el arte cultural. Fue una católica devota que adoró activamente al Señor de diversas maneras, incluyendo su participación en el movimiento de Cursillo de Cristiandad. Teresa fue una persona amable y compasiva que cuidó con amor de todos los que la rodeaban. 

La recuerdan con cariño sus hijos: Angel Ruiz (Monserrate Acevedo), Edwin Ruiz (Sonia Rivera), Lourdes Ruiz, Javier Ruiz (Betzaida Bayouth) y Miriam Ruiz, cuyo amor y respeto por su madre son inconmensurables. Adicionalmente sus tesoros, los 8 nietos y 9 bisnietos.  Teresa también deja a su hermana, Elisa Loran, con quien compartió los lazos familiares y entrañables recuerdos. Aunque su amado esposo, Angel Vidal Ruiz, partió antes que ella, su memoria perdura en los corazones de todos los que los amaron.

Los servicios fúnebres de Teresa se llevarán a cabo el martes 12 de mayo de 2026, comenzando con una velación de 10:00 AM a 11:30 AM en Funeraria Luz De Paz, ubicada en 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. Posteriormente se celebrará una misa en la Iglesia Católica Romana St. Patrick, 170 Thompson St., Bridgeport, CT, a partir de las 12:00 PM, en honor a su fe y su comunidad. Finalmente, será sepultada en Park Cemetery Association, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, CT, comenzando el entierro a la 1:00 PM.

La vida de Teresa fue un hermoso tapiz tejido con hilos de amor, fortaleza y creatividad. A través de sus habilidades artesanales y su alegría permanente, tocó los corazones de muchas personas. Su legado continuará inspirando a quienes tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla: una mujer que personificó la gracia, la fortaleza y una genuina pasión por la vida. Aunque ha partido, el espíritu de Teresa vive en el calor de su familia, en la belleza de sus creaciones y en los felices recuerdos que deja para siempre.

Teresa Legarreta, an accomplished businesswoman and beloved artisan, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at her residence in Bridgeport. Born on May 12, 1940, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Teresa's vibrant spirit and creative soul enriched the lives of all who knew her. She would have celebrated her 86th birthday just days later, a poignant reminder of the lasting legacy she leaves behind.


Teresa was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a remarkable entrepreneur. She owned and operated her own store, a testament to her determination and dedication. Her deep pride in her heritage shone through her craft, as she was a registered certified crafter of traditional Puerto Rican artesanal goods. With a great sense of humor and boundless creativity, Teresa transformed fine threads into exquisite baby clothing through her crocheting, creating each piece with profound love and care. These delicate creations were treasured tokens of her affectionate nature and her commitment to preserving cultural artistry. She was a devout Catholic who actively worshipped the Lord in various ways including in the Cursillo de Cristiandad movement. Teresa was a kind and compassionate person who lovingly cared for all.

She is fondly remembered by her living family: her children Angel Ruiz (Monserrate Acevedo), Edwin Ruiz (Sonia Rivera), Lourdes Ruiz, Javier Ruiz (Betzaida Bayouth), and Miriam Ruiz, whose love and respect for their mother are immeasurable. Additionally, her treasured 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Teresa is also survived by her sister, Elisa Loran, who shared in the bonds of family and cherished memories. Though her beloved husband, Angel Vidal Ruiz, has passed on, his memory endures in the hearts of those who loved them both.

Teresa's funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, beginning with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. A Mass will follow at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 170 Thompson St., Bridgeport, CT, from 12:00 PM, honoring her faith and community. Finally, she will be laid to rest at Park Cemetery Association, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport, CT, with burial commencing at 1:00 PM.

Teresa's life was a beautiful tapestry woven from threads of love, resilience, and creativity. Through her artisan skills and her enduring humor, she touched the hearts of many. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her—a woman who embodied grace, strength, and a genuine passion for life. Though she has departed, Teresa’s spirit lives on in the warmth of her family, the beauty of her craft, and the joyful memories she leaves behind.
