Virgilio Vélez, un dedicado guardia de cruce querido por muchos, falleció el 30 de julio de 2025 en New Haven, Connecticut. Nacido el 27 de agosto de 1961 en Lares, Puerto Rico, Virgilio irradiaba calidez y amabilidad en todos los aspectos de su vida. Dedicó incontables años al servicio de la comunidad de Bridgeport, donde su actitud diligente y amigable lo convirtió en una figura entrañable para niños y padres por igual.

Con un corazón lleno de compasión y un espíritu alegre, Virgilio no era solo un guardia de cruce; era un amigo para todos los que lo conocían. Su felicidad se reflejaba en su trabajo, al que se entregaba cada día con entusiasmo y compromiso para guiar con seguridad a los estudiantes por las calles. Al reunirnos para recordar a Virgilio Vélez, atesoramos las bellas memorias, las risas y el amor que compartió con todos nosotros.

Virgilio Velez, a devoted crossing guard beloved by many, passed away on July 30, 2025, in New Haven, Connecticut. Born on August 27, 1961, in Lares, Puerto Rico, Virgilio brought warmth and kindness to every aspect of his life. He dedicated countless years to serving the community of Bridgeport, where his diligent and friendly demeanor made him a cherished figure for children and parents alike.

With a heart full of compassion and a joyful spirit, Virgilio was not just a crossing guard; he was a friend to all who encountered him. His happiness radiated through his work, where he approached each day with enthusiasm and a commitment to safely guiding students across the streets. He often described his job as more than just a duty; it was an opportunity to connect with the young souls he helped, fostering a sense of safety and friendship that left lasting impressions. The students he helped cross daily loved him dearly and will miss his presence profoundly.

Outside of his professional life, Virgilio was passionate about cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. A talented chef, he delighted in preparing dishes that brought family and friends together. He found peace in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was spending time at the beach, casting lines as an avid fisherman, or dancing joyfully at gatherings. His social nature and ability to actively listen made him a source of sage advice for those around him, earning him a reputation as someone who was always willing to help those in need.

Virgilio's legacy extends beyond his many accomplishments; it's deeply woven into the fabric of his family and extended circles. He is survived by his extended family, whom he valued as his own, including Lillian, Lesha, Kariam, Eduardo, Edwin, Carmen, Adal, Martina, and Pito, and his siblings Maria, Ailsa, Sonia and Raul. Each of them carries forward the lessons of love and kindness he imparted.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Rosa Maria Velez Soto, and brother Enrique who surely welcomed him with open arms. Virgilio will be remembered for the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him, his unwavering spirit of generosity, and his joyful heart.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life during a viewing at Funeraria Luz De Paz located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
